In about 10 hours, our group will leave for Harlan, Kentucky for our week of service! The focus of our trip is Rural Poverty and Appalachian Culture. Harlan is one of the poorer counties in Appalachia Kentucky, and according to recent data, has had poverty rates more than double the national rate. We will be doing home weatherization, working with the Harlan Senior Center cleaning houses and working at a free medical clinic. We'll also be having educational events, like museum visits and speakers, to learn more about rural poverty and Appalachia culture.
